8am morning call from Matsubada-san (I always almost ACCIDENTALLY call him Hanabada-san). “Samansa-san your fright 9:50. Tell otha Miyako people” O CRAP! Need to leave soon!
Our flight was supposed to be at the afternoon time, but there’s a TYPHOON coming towards Miyako, so they wanted us to get out of there ASAP. During breakfast, Matsubada-san told me that the other two Miyako people got on the 9:50 flight but I was on stand-by (wtf!). When we got to the airport he said we all got on the flight (thank you Matsubada-san you are master).
Our flight was actually the LAST flight leaving for Miyako, so if we left later in the day, we would be stuck in Naha (nooo thankyou!). The flight was delayed for a while, but finally got on at about 10:30am.
The flight was only 35mins long.. Because of turbulence I started to feel ill and about to up-chuck. I closed my eyes and had one of those “are we there yet are we there yet” instances. I didn’t up-chuck guys yay.
EMBARASSING!!! When we were at baggage claim I had to go pee, so I walked over to the bathroom, and I still don’t know how this happened, but I just… FELL. my right foot slipped forwards and I landed on my left knee.. HARD. and right in front of two guys walking out of the men’s bathroom… “ahh daijobu desuka?” “haihai daijobu desu”, RUN into bathroom and hide!
My knee hurts.
I was pleasantly greeted with three people from BOE (Board of Education), and other JETs (Gary was there with Amy who is his predecessor). I went with the three BOE guys to see where my office is. There was a cute little sign on my desk “Welcome Board Samantha Kodama” (welcome board? okay.. lol). There was a picture of Stich (from Lilo and Stich), Obama (with a speech bubble that said “I hope you enjoy Miyako life” (Thanks Obama!)), and a random girl who LOOKED like Lilo but wasn’t Lilo. “Who is that girl?” (Thinking it was some Japanese cartoon character) “ooH that is YOU, Samantha! See? it looks like you!”… haha oh boy.
I got to see my apartment… Looks nice. There were two workers still fixing the windows and cleaning it so I cannot move in until Saturday. It’s a small place but I guess a little big for Miyako standards? Not too sure. 50,000Yen/month.
Until then I’m staying at Gary’s place. He’s living in Amy (Gary’s predecessor)’s place. She was supposed to go home to Hawaii tomorrow, but there’s a typhoon so her flight got canceled until Saturday.
Oh yea did I mention that a TYPHOON is coming? Yea. Right now it’s a level 2 (out of 5) and by later this afternoon it’s supposed to be a level 4 or something… scarrryyy. It’s so windy I could seriously throw Michi in the air and she would fly away. Me, Amy, and Gary went to rent DVDs for the night and bought some frozen foods.. we were going to buy bread but THEY WERE SOLD OUT! What kind of store sells out of bread… Miyako stores.
Because of the typhoon, I cannot move into my apartment tomorrow, I cannot open my bank account (b/c its closed or something cuz of typhoony), and I cannot get a cell phone (cuz I need a bank account first). Well, that also means I don’t have to work tomorrow either! Gotta take the good with the bad, eh?
So tonight me, gary, and amy are just gonna chill out at the apartment and watch movies or something.
I miss my family and friends and toru and helene and tylercalvinvictorrichardsarahjonkandyceryandoneddiematjasonshauntroyericmatt+everyone!
